    • PAC Oversight: Spending decisions are voted on at PAC meetings, based on parent priorities and school needs.

Gaming Grant FAQs

  • Every year, the B.C. government gives eligible Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) funding called the Community Gaming Grant. It’s meant to support extracurricular activities and parent involvement — basically, the extras that make school life better.

  • Funds must go toward students’ extracurricular experiences. Examples include field trips, clubs, sports equipment, cultural events, performances, or parent-run initiatives.

It can’t be used for classroom supplies, staff wages, or anything covered by the school or district budget.

  • PACs receive $20 per student based on last year’s enrolment.

For a school with about 1,700 students (Hamber’s capacity), that’s roughly $34,000 per year.

  • Any leftover funds remain under the PAC’s control in the Gaming Account until spent on eligible activities.

  • The PAC applies each spring and keeps the funds in a separate “Gaming Account.” The money is controlled and reported by the PAC — not by the school or district.

  • More information is available from the official website of the Government of British Columbia.
